Initiatives & Priorities
There is an existing strong parent involvement at Hilton Primary School. However, the school wanted a program that focussed on increasing regular student attendance in a select group of students that also allowed this group of students to take ownership of their attendance, using an incentive based approach.
Each day that a child attends, they receive a 50c voucher. Every child in the Attendance Program receives 2 pockets on a pocket storage system that hangs in the Principal’s Office. One pocket holds the Attendance money which students deposit each day. The other pocket acts as the student’s bank. At the end of each fortnight, the child can choose to redeem the vouchers for a $5 lunch voucher to be used at the Canteen. Alternatively, the money can be saved to purchase larger items such as footballs, netballs, items of school uniform, or to help contribute to school excursions.
The Attendance Program has been extremely successful and the Principal has seen a marked change in the students on the program.
